Summary

Description
English: Example visualization of cascading failure – cascade model on an empirical spatial network, here: the UCTE network (European power transmission network), based on grid data from 2002 (the UCTE network in 2002 consisted of 1254 transmission stations, spanning 18 European countries).

Movie S3 (original caption):

Progression of a cascade initiated by a spatially localized removal of 9 nodes.
Color and node size conventions are as explained in caption for Movie S1. The tolerance parameter used here is α = 0.15. The number of nodes removed in the course of the cascade is 297, and the number of nodes in the surviving giant component is 329.
