If you are a Wikimedian interested in discussing cultural partnerships, please join the cultural-partnerships-l mailing list by following the instructions below. Wikimedians are encouraged to join the active conversations there. It is a closed list only so that we may discuss not-yet-public, forthcoming projects and honestly analyse past projects.
If you are interested in North American cultural partnerships, please consider also joining the public North American Cultural Partnerships mailing list.
If you are a cultural professional interested in discussing cultural partnerships, please join the public GLAM mailing list.
You may also join our IRC channel at #wikimedia-glam connect on freenode, where there are interested users willing to talk about GLAM projects. For more information see the IRC guide
How to request access
New subscription requests to this list should be proposed here listing: Name, username, home wiki and/or Chapter and a brief description of your Wikimedia work that relates to GLAM outreach. Representatives of GLAM organisations may also request subscription only if they are also Wikimedians in their own right.
Subscription requests will be notified to the mailing list and give a few days for comment. No support/oppose voting is required and unless comments or questions are raised (which can be answered by the requester here) then a request will be approved.

- The list is not intended to be for notification of upcoming projects, but more a discussion of international (or inter-chapter) GLAM strategy and sharing of casual, draft and sometimes sensitive information relating to development of new partnerships and new GLAM roles. Is this an area you feel you are right to contribute to more as a Wikimedian rather than GLAM professional or would the museum-l list be sufficient? Thanks --Fæ (talk) 11:24, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

- Hi Melanie. So far everyone on this mailing list is from "inside" wikimedia. There is no rule against people who are new/external to Wikimedia joining the list, but it would be a first. The particular concern we have (and why it is a closed list) is because we often talk about external cultural organisations, which can be sensitive if done publicly. Can you explain your work with/on/about Wikimedia projects? Wittylama (talk) 10:03, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm a graduate student in the Guralnick Lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder. As part of my research, I work with the Biodiversity Heritage Library, an online library of scanned scientific literature from the 1400s to the present day. At the moment, I'm working on commons:Commons:Biodiversity Heritage Library to encourage uploading of public domain BHL content in the Commons. The BHL are interested in bulk-uploading pre-1923 scientific illustrations into the Commons as well, so I think this list would be the best place to think about the copyright/annotation/feedback issues arising from there.
My lab has an interest in digitizing biodiversity information (see So You Think You Can Digitize, our blog on this subject). Andie, Rob and I are currently thinking about using en:WikiSource as an annotation platform for some field notes which were prepared for the en:University of Colorado Museum of Natural History. I think this experiment might be of interest to archivists and libraries, as a way of creating rich, annotated websites based on public-domain works accessible to everybody.
I've also helped organize two Wikipedia events, including a Wikipedia Loves Libraries! on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. -- Gaurav (talk) 22:41, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Nihiltres
English Wikipedia, always User:Nihiltres. I enjoy facilitating interactions on the wiki end of things. I helped set up the WP:1.0 system for the British Museum project and I'm working a bit to help out with some of the Indianapolis GLAM-WIKI stuff. I'm looking for ways to improve my involvement, and joining this list seems like a good step. :) {{Nihiltres|talk|edits}} 19:17, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Support Nihiltres has been infinitely helpful in the development of templates and processes throughout my projects, including The Children's Museum and WikiProject Public art. He keeps up with our goings-ons in the GLAM world and it makes sense for him to be plugged in. HstryQT (talk) 23:51, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Question What GLAM-related work have you taken part in? Regards, Rock drum (talk · contribs) 10:03, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Support Dispenser is a great tool-builder, we've talked much informally on NYC and DC GLAM efforts, and he has now expressed interest in helping out with GLAM tools as well.--Pharos (talk) 00:37, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Support We have been encouraging Dispenser to get more involved with developing GLAM-related tools. Aude (talk) 00:54, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
iopensa
iopensa, Iolanda Pensa.
Member of Wikimedia IT, I mainly contribute to the Italian and English Wikipedia.
- I collaborate with lettera27 Foundation. The foundation started in 2006 with Wikimedia Italia the project WikiAfrica; between 2006 and 2010 WikiAfrica supported new researches, training and events. In 2010 we set a milestone for WikiAfrica: 30.000 African articles for Wikipedia by 2012 (any language). We are working to reach this goal by involving African cultural institutions and African-related cultural institutions.
- In 2011 we created a partnership with the Africa Centre based in Cape Town to implement the project together, and we launched a sub-project: "Share Your Knowledge" (supported by Wikimedia Italy, Nexa-CC Italy and Fondazione Cariplo). "Share Your Knowledge" is strongly linked to GLAM. We address cultural institutions and we invite them to focus on their documentation through Creative Commons and Wikipedia. In 2011 "Share Your Knowledge" involves 5 institutions (a contemporary art centre, a publisher, a festival/ONG, a research centre and one of the major Italian grant-maker) to produce case studies and guidelines; in 2012 the project involves other institutions to apply the guidelines and we study 10 cases to verify that the guidelines work. We focus on independent and private non profit institutions, mainly in Italy (although the Africa Centre based in Cape Town participates in the project with the objective of implementing it in Africa); we are currently working to expand the geographical areas of the project. We promote CC and wikipedia as some sort of "new approaches" for cultural institutions: we work both on their archives (to make them more accessible) but also on their current work (to produce procedures cc and wikipedia friendly). To facilitate the process, the project involves two lawyers and two wikipedia tutors (some sort of last-mile operators).
- We are really interested in contributing to GLAM (to make guidelines, case studies and other resources available in a larger frame) and of course to take advantage of your experience. Regards, iopensa (talk) 10:13, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support. Iopensa is an active member of Wikimedia Italy, and her presence amongst us would be very valuable as a bridge between the Wikiverse and institutional organizatons in Italy. Aubrey (talk) 07:55, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
