CITIZENSHIP ACTIVITY

This activity is designed for my Analysis of Financial Information course

EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

This activity is intended for students to:

– Recognize that all individuals involved in the preparation and disclosure of financial information have a social responsibility and must be accountable for the quality and accuracy of said information

– Examine the effects that deliberately faulty, biased or otherwise incomplete information have in the decisions taken by the different economic agents or the communities as a whole

– Review the measures that regulatory agents have taken in order to guarantee the quality and reliability of the information that is supplied to the economic agents

– Understand the importance of contributing to the general knowledge by making significant contributions to Wikipedia


GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

Have the student apply the concepts related to the regulatory foundations of the accounting process and its final product: the financial statements, all within a proper ethics and social responsibility framework.


INSTRUCTIONS:

– Understand the role of regulatory agents in framing the ethical and responsible behavior of all persons involved in the preparation and dissemination of financial information

– Review the different rules and dispositions that have arisen in connection with this scenario

– Examine the economic and social consequences that the scenario produced at local and international levels

– Access and adequately use the different sources of information including ITESM´s Biblioteca Digital by consulting and citing at least two articles from specialized publications that refer to the subject

– Submit a two page report on your findings

– Review the current Wikipedia´s “Escándalo Enron” article and design a significant contribution based on applicable Wikipedia rules (es.wikipedia.org Cómo colaborar section). Contributions must be previously submitted on Blackboard. The best will be selected to edit the article.


Evaluation process:

This activity must be performed individually and account for 5% of your final grade. Additional 10 points will be awarded to the best three Wikipedia contributions.

Your grade on this activity will depend upon how well you support your answers and the adequate use and reference of information sources.
