Summary: Wikipedia, an open educational resource (OER) par excellence, can and should be integrated curricularly into elementary or basic education and higher education.

Wikipedia is an undeniable contribution to the democratization of access to information. In addition, and if we consider the student population, it is one of the main sources of research, namely for the accomplishment of curricular tasks. In this context, educational projects at Wikipedia, from basic education to higher education, have enormous potential and are highly relevant. Thus, we consider two examples of curricular integration of Wikipedia that we implemented in Portugal: a teacher training course, which took place in school of the Portuguese Basic Education, in the Lisbon district, and involved two teachers and two classes (6th and 8th grades); and the first partnership between the Wikimedia Foundation and a Portuguese University, namely the Open University (Portugal), under the Wikipedia Program at the University. From these examples we recognize that it is important, on the one hand, to focus on the training of teachers, and with them explore the potential of Wikipedia; and, on the other hand, to promote the curricular integration of Wikipedia, through the Wikipedia Education Program or the Wikipedia in University Program. In short, we can conclude that Wikipedia, an open educational resource (OER) par excellence, can and should be integrated curricularly into elementary or basic education and higher education.
