A very low resourced high school just received a grant to build a computer lab. The grant requires teachers to use the lab for at least one hour a week to help the students learn digital literacy skills. The teachers have never used ICT before.[edit]

"A secondary school administrator wants all their teachers to incorporate information literacy into their subject lessons. They think a Wikipedia Education Program would be very helpful in this endeavor."[edit]

In most places [in the Philippine context], Wikipedia has been misconceived to be a source of unreliable and unvalidated information. Despite its flexibility, the open source still seem to be questionable. I believe that this misconception stems from not being able to understand the primary goal of Wikipedia -- to develop and enhance research skills (particularly that of citing and referencing) in a sophisticated global-local collaborative process.

Appropriating the above mentioned scenario, it is important for the school administrators to clarify and correct this misconception about Wikipedia's essential goal. This may bring about paradigm shift in the preference of the faculty in terms of selecting online references. After which the leaders may deliver a capacity-building/enhancement professional development program that focuses on the utilization and maximization of the programs offered by Wiki organization.
