Español: Gertrude Elizabeth Margaret Anscombe (Limerick (Irlanda), 19 de marzo de 1919 - Cambridge (Reino Unido), 5 de enero de 2001) filósofa y teóloga, discípula directa de Ludwig Wittgenstein, estudió en la Universidad de Oxford y ocupó la cátedra de Filosofía de Cambridge entre 1970 y 1986, año de su jubilación. Es autora, entre otras publicaciones, de Intention (1957) y Collected Philosophical Papers (3 volúmenes 1981).

Català: Elizabeth Anscombe (Limerick, 1919 - Cambridge, 2001) va ser una filòsofa especialitzada en ètica i en la divulgació de Wittgenstein, de qui va ser alumna. Creia que la bondat d'una acció es mesurava per les seves conseqüències, així com per la intenció (concepte que va desenvolupar també en filosofia del llenguatge), tot i que primaven els efectes.

Malgrat aquesta teoria, va afirmar que determinades accions estaven prohibides per se, sense tenir en compte les seves conseqüències, ja que atempten contra els fonaments de l'ètica. Dins d'aquest grup va incloure temes debatuts com l'avortament o l'eutanàsia, perquè les veia com actes que atemptaven contra la dignitat humana. Va militar activament en grups catòlics i políticament va condemnar els polítics que havien permès la bomba atòmica.
