Deutsch: Nach zehnjähriger Reise und rund sieben Milliarden Kilometern Wegstrecke steuert die Mission Rosetta nun auf ihren Höhepunkt zu: Die Landung auf einem Kometen. Am 12. November 2014 ist es dann soweit: Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der Raumfahrt soll ein Landegerät auf einem Kometen abgesetzt werden. „Was uns da oben erwartet, wissen wir nicht konkret“, sagt Lander-Projektleiter Dr. Stephan Ulamec vom Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR). Die Landung auf dem Kometen Churyumov-Gerasimenko soll den Wissenschaftlern ermöglichen, erstmals Experimente vor Ort durchführen zu können. Kometen werden als Zeugen der Entstehung unseres Sonnensystems betrachtet. Befindet sich die Kometenoberfläche tatsächlich in einer Art "Urzustand"? Weisen Kometen präbiotische Moleküle und Wasser auf und spielten sie damit eine Rolle bei der Entstehung des Lebens auf der Erde? Diese Fragen sollen mit Hilfe der Mission Rosetta beantwortet werden.
