Italiano: Una C. barnesi adulta nell'atto di catturare un Acanthochromis attratto dai gruppi di nematocisti sui tentacoli della medusa.
Dimensioni della campana: 15 mm di altezza, mentre il pesce misura circa 10 mm di lungo. Notare che il pesce viene avvelenato per contatto sulla testa.
English: Envenomation of a larval fish (Acanthochromis sp.) that was captured by a twitching tentacle of an adult Carukia barnesi.
Larval fish (Acanthochromis sp.) were often attracted to the nematocyst clusters on the extended fishing tentacles of C. barnesi especially when they were being ‘twitched’. Fish would pursue these clusters and become ‘stung’ around the mouth region or head, resulting in death. The bell size of this specimen is approximately 15 mm in height and the fish is approximately 10 mm in length. Note the envenomation site is on the head region of the fish. |
