English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
The Amsterdam School style originated in the 1920's when some young architects started to resist the chaotic public housing buildings from the 19th century. The architect Wijdeveld, who is still alive, tells (off screen) about the designs of those days. SHOTS: several of the Amsterdam School buildings; Wijdeveld glances through a photo book on architecture; int. of the council chamber of the city hall and theatre Tuschinski; ext. Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House) at the Prins Hendrikkade.

De Amsterdamse School-stijl is ontstaan in de jaren '20 toen een aantal jonge architecten zich begonnen te verzetten tegen de chaotische volkswoningenbouw uit de 19e eeuw. De nog in leven zijnde architect Wijdeveld vertelt (buiten beeld) over de ontwerpen van die tijd. SHOTS: diversen van Amsterdamse school-gebouwen; Wijdeveld bladert in fotoboek over architectuur; int. van raadszaal stadhuis en theater Tuschinski; ext. Scheepvaarthuis aan de Prins Hendrikkade. |
