Exploring Wikidata & Building Community for Cultural Heritage Professionals
ByA Beginner's Guide to Wikidata for Cultural Heritage

At the end of last year the WMDE team digitales Kulturgut, which supports use of the Wikimedia Projects to build linked open cultural heritage data in Germany, published a new guide to help cultural heritage professionals get to grips with wikidata: A Beginner's Guide to Wikidata for Cultural Heritage. It's a curated collection of some great pre-existing resources, broken down into modules, with different styles of presentation to suit different learning styles. We eventually hope to produce equivalent content in German language, and extend the curriculum. For now we hope this offers an easy way to get started with the practicalities of using wikidata as an institutional/GLAM employee or digital humanities researcher. Take a look - all feedback welcome!

Welcome WikiKult - a new community of practice for cultural heritage professionals
Since our kick-off last year (read about it here) our German language community of practice for cultural heritage professionals working with the wikimedia projects to build Linked Open Data has been taking shape. Meeting monthly with rotating moderation, we've established a name and a homepage –WikiKult - Offene Kulturdaten– and, heavily inspired by the LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group, have recently started hosting presentations from community members who use wikidata and/or wikibase in their work. Our goal is to connect, learn, and collaborate on challenges we can’t tackle alone. Everyone welcome :)
