BHL Transition update
As a result of the Smithsonian no longer hosting the administrative functions of BHL from 1 January 2026 (see this announcement), BHL has released a call for support which has been shared widely by many BHL collaborators/champions across various networks. If you are aware of any institution that may be interested in hosting BHL please share that information with them.
The most recent update on BHL's transition can be found here.
LivingData2025 Conference
The session being organised by Anabela Plos and BHL’s Wikimedian in Residence Tiago Lubiana titled Wikimedia and Biodiversity Data: A Mutualistic Relationship in the Open Knowledge Ecosystem has had an increase in time allocated for presentations.
Ambrosia10's abstract submitted to this session titled “Integrating research expedition data from the Biodiversity Heritage Library into the Wikiverse” has been accepted. Tiago Lubiana and Giovanna Fontenelle's abstract The impact of the BHL-Wiki working group in making biodiversity heritage knowledge accessible to all has also been accepted.
Paper published based on BHL powered research
A paper by Ambrosia10, S.v.Mering and other collaborators titled The women honoured in flowering plant genera: From myth to reality has been published. BHL played a significant role by providing access to the scientific publications we used to confirm the naming of these plants. This paper is the analysis of the dataset we created based on that research.
