International Museum Day Edit-a-thon and Workshop held in Dinajpur, Bangladesh
Museum Day 2026: Dinajpur Offline Edit-a-thon

An offline edit-a-thon was successfully held on May 18, 2026, in Dinajpur District, Bangladesh. Wikimedia Bangladesh helped to organize this event. The main reason for this program was to celebrate International Museum Day. The event started at 10:00 AM at the Cultural Academy of Ethnic Minorities in Dinajpur. For the last four years, we have been organizing online and offline events for Museum Day. This year, our event was the third offline activity that focused completely on local museums in northern Bangladesh.
Local Wikimedians came from different parts of the Dinajpur district to join the program. At first, they talked about their regular work and responsibilities on the Bengali Wikipedia. A total of six people attended the event. Among them, five were regular contributors and one was an active Wikipedia reader. The participants were Anup Sadi, Dolon Prova, Tushar Shuvra Basak, Manik Soren, and Md Tasmim Hasan. Everyone was very friendly and shared their personal editing stories during the meeting.
Preserving Local History and Fostering Future Collaborations

After the introduction, the article-writing workshop officially started. The day-long event ended successfully at 4:00 PM. In this short time, participants worked hard and created eight new museum articles. Experienced editor Anup Sadi also took a useful training class for the new users. He taught them how to edit articles, translate from English, and fix machine translation errors. He also discussed important GLAM topics to make the new editors more confident in their writing.
The seminar room of the Cultural Academy was the perfect location for us. It gave the participants a great chance to see the preserved folk museum. We took many photos of the historical objects and uploaded them to Wikimedia Commons. This activity helped everyone gain practical knowledge about local history. After the event, we discussed future plans. The director of the academy was very happy with our work. He promised to help Wikimedia Bangladesh with any future programs at this venue.
