New Wikisource Mini-Course Explores Criminal History and Paleography

A exciting new open-educational resource is now live within the Wiki ecosystem. The mini-course "Manuscritos no tribunal: paleografia aplicada a processos criminais de Campinas" (Manuscripts in Court: Paleography Applied to Criminal Lawsuits from Campinas) has been officially launched.

This initiative is the result of a powerful collaboration between the Centro de Memória Unicamp (CMU), Wikimedia Brasil, and Professor Alícia Duhá Lose (AN/UFBA). Hosted on Wikiversity, the course bridges the gap between archival science and the digital humanities, training community members and researchers to transcribe complex historical documents using Wikisource. By focusing on historical criminal records from the region of Campinas, the project not only preserves vital heritage but also equips volunteers with the paleographic skills needed to make digitized manuscripts fully searchable and accessible.

July Workshop Cycle: Disseminating GLAM Collections on Wikimedia Platforms

To kick off July 2026, Wikimedia Brasil is hosting a comprehensive, free training series tailored for cultural heritage professionals, researchers, and Wikimedians: the "Ciclo de oficinas Difusão de Acervos GLAM em Plataformas Wikimedia" (Workshop Cycle: Disseminating GLAM Collections on Wikimedia Platforms).

The program runs across three consecutive Tuesdays (July 7, 14, and 21, 2026), from 14:00 to 17:00 BRT. The sessions are designed to offer both theoretical foundations and hands-on technical training, guiding participants through the strategic integration of cultural collections into Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. By lower the technical barriers for institutions, this capacity-building cycle aims to accelerate the open-access movement in Brazil and ensure local histories achieve global reach.
