New Zealand Bioeconomy Science Institute Wikimedian in Residence update, a letter published in Nature & Architecture + Women NZ
Update on the NZ Bioeconomy Science Institute WiR
In March Ambrosia10 published several documents outlining the data models for both type specimen Wikidata items and the structured data for Wikimedia Commons specimen image files. The documentation also included crosswalks to Darwin Core, an excel spreadsheet showing an example upload via OpenRefine, and two "how to" documents supporting the use of these data models. This documentation was created as part of the Wikidata:WikiProject Natural History Specimen Data Model, a collaboration with Dactylantha from the Auckland Museum and is linked to on that project page. These documents have also been published in a Zenodo community to broaden access to the same.
Letter in Nature
Stitchbird2 and Ambrosia10 (both members of Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand) and their international colleagues TiagoLubiana and S.v.Mering have had a letter published in the scientific journal Nature. In this letter they advocate for biodiversity knowledge experts to contribute not just to Wikipedia but also to Wikidata and WikiCommons.
