Chair reports on NZ species editathon and the Open Education Global conference
The BHL-Wiki chairperson, Siobhan Leachman (User:Ambrosia10), reported back on the recently held New Zealand species edit-a-thon focusing on the use of BHL content during that event. Access to BHL was detrimental affected the first day of the event as a result of the attack on the Internet Archive. Happily by the time the second day of the edit-a-thon was held BHL content was accessible. She also reported back on her keynote at the Open Education Global Conference 2024 which included BHL related content. A recording of her presentation has been placed on Youtube.
Review of Wiki related BHL website FAQ
A review of the Wiki related portions of the BHL FAQ on the BHL website is underway. Proposed changes to the wording is intended to be put to attendees at the next BHL-Wiki working group meeting for feedback.
New BHL related Wikimedia Commons categories
Two new Wikimedia Commons categories relating to files from the Biodiversity Heritage Library have been created to assist with tracking progress for the Wikimedia Foundation Hypothesis statement on their Annual Plan. These categories relate to files in South America and files in Africa. Work is now being undertaken by the BHL Wikimedia-in-residence and members of the BHL-Wiki working group to populate these categories. Siobhan Leachman has documented a manual workflow for this work. This draft workflow is CC0 licensed so please feel free to comment, edit and of course use it.
Project management basics presentation
JJ Dearborn gave the BHL-Wiki working group a brief presentation on “What is a Research Spike” as part of the her ongoing efforts to upskill members on project management basics.
