Hi Mohammed Galib Hasan, thanks for sharing this update in the newsletter! I wonder if you can explain some more about the purpose of this workshop? How will it help the Wikimedia community in Bangladesh? How will it help the engineering students? What will they learn? Who are you working with in the department? The more we know, and the more you share, the more we can learn!

Hi NSaad (WMF), thanks for your attention i am trying to provide some information on your query:

purpose of this workshop?

  • Basically this workshop is conducted by me to introduce my Department Students about some Wikimedia Movement, like What is Wikipedia, how it forms, Who are the contributors, the the basic guideline of Wikipedia had been discussed over by presentation.

How will it help the Wikimedia community in Bangladesh?

  • As currently i am working for WEP, i think this kind of workshop particularly in University will increase awareness to the other students to involve with Wikimedia or like other open sources, its not only applicable for Bangladesh Community but also with other emerging community.

How will it help the engineering students?

  • particularly this workshop was for Electrical and Electronic Engineering as i belong from this Department so on that day i had also discussed about About Wikiproject Electrical Engineering, and i have also made a list of Articles which is related to Electrical Engineering Department, Which can be improved & created by my department.

Who are you working with in the department?

  • As of now about 20 students wished to involve with the movement. and one lecturer from Computer Science department planned to join with us.

And the most important things i am just Using my Department resource Like Internet, Classroom for the Program, which is free of cost i think its a new thing for me. If you have any questions related this ping me.I have also sent a Update Presentation on my activities to your email. Thanks- Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 06:49, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for providing more explanation, Mohammed Galib Hasan. I hope you can incorporate those details into your newsletter article. I wonder, how can you frame the students' participation in this workshop and Wiki Club as an educational activity? What skills will they learn that will help them with their studies and later in life? In general, we need to think more about this aspect within education activities that are part of the Wikimedia movement.
Let's also think more about the benefit to the Wikimedia community: will the students be editing these engineering articles in the local language? Will the activities increase the quality/quantity of articles in the local language? You mentioned you think that it will also help other emerging communities. How do you think this will be helpful?

NSaad (WMF) Thanks for your rapid reply! Here i tried to answer some of your question.

will the students be editing these engineering articles in the local language?

  • As the Program will be conducted to Engineering Department so at first all the Contribution will go to English Wikipedia, as i have listed some articles in English Wikipedia related Electrical Engineering sector of Bangladesh which will be improved and will be created. If we can successfully complete our target in English Wikipedia then we will look forward for our local language.

What skills will they learn that will help them with their studies and later in life?

  • Any graduate from EEE Department need to complete a Major like in Power System,Computer Engineering so if he writes articles in Wikipedia related his Major Subject , so both Wikipedia and his academic will be benefited.

Will the activities increase the quality/quantity of articles in the local language?

  • i am not pretty sure about local language as my listed are mostly in English Wikipedia, but undoubtedly English Wikipedia will have more pleasant and informative articles related this program.

You mentioned you think that it will also help other emerging communities. How do you think this will be helpful?

  • This time i am using my resource from my varsity, so those community has lack of support or lack of experience how a program can be run by internal resource, this program can be idol example for them.

If you have more query .please ping me. I JethroBT (WMF) i am mentioning you as you can also acknowledged what we have discussed. Thanks. Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 11:42, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mohammed Galib Hasan I would encourage you to use the information you shared here in the discussion page to revise the newsletter article. I would also encourage you to conduct this program in Bengali. It is very difficult for students who are not native English speakers to work with the English Wikipedia community. It is much better to build up local language Wikis. I would encourage you to have a chat with User:Ananth_subray or User:Saileshpat about their education activities on local language Wikis in India. As it is, I don't see that this activity would build awareness, as per the Inspire Campaign, since you are conducting activities on English Wikipedia. Thanks a lot NSaad (WMF) for your guideline, i have revised the newsletter. As per your suggestion i will Conduct the Program to write articles in Bengali from exciting English articles related Electrical Engineering. Thanks Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 11:35, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good adjustment, Mohammed Galib Hasan. The students can learn some translation skills while adding content to the Bengali Wiki. NSaad (WMF) (talk) 16:19, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NSaad (WMF) thanks. I will go for this plan. Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 09:25, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
