Education Program Mentors[edit]

Dear Mikhail,

During my last days working at the Wikimedia Foundation, you wrote to me at my staff account with an update about the education program pilot in Belarus. I'm replying from my volunteer account to be sure that you got the information you requested.

First, I'm very happy to hear about your progress. You have a lecturer who is interested in using the wiki model in their course. That's great news. Now, it is very important that you connect with a mentor from a more mature program. A mentor will beadvise you, guide you toward best practices, and help you avoid known pitfalls.

I recommend that you connect with a mentor from the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. Both Vojtěch from Czech Republic and Filip from Serbia 1. are members of the Collab 2. have many years of experience with the Wikipedia Education Program 3. have firsthand understanding of the CEE region. And both WMCZ and WMRS now have a paid staff education program manager. They will be able to advise you better than I can now.

I wish you good luck with this education program pilot. I look forward to following your progress. Feel free to keep me in the loop. I am always happy to give encouragement and advice.

Yсяго добрага. All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 03:52, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mikhail, I'll be happy to help you - anything you need to know, or anything you are not sure about :). E-mail is the quickest option. I wish you all the best for your wiki-education efforts in Belarus. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 16:27, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Vojtěch Dostál, Thanks for your interest to my question. I will prepare presentation for some education institution (formal and informal). I wonder to know more about your best practices in educational activities and how it connected to wiki projects. Perhaps for beginning useful links to precise courses and modules you developed will be fruitful --Mr. Zabej (talk) 21:16, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mikhail, our course pages and resources are mostly in Czech, so I'd recommend you international resources. G for Education/Resources; if you want to know more about ways of incorporating Wikipedia into education, I'd recommend one of the brochures - Wikipedia Education Program Case Studies. There are many ways to encourage students to contribut to Wikipedia :-) --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 21:17, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the links. We have one translator to/from Czech language, so you authentic content will be useful as well. What do you think about a crazy idea. Are you interested in to speak for belarusian lecturers your experience, online or offline? --Mr. Zabej (talk) 23:24, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mr. Zabej Sure, no problem :) I can only speak English, not Russian, if that's OK :). Please write me on vojtech.dostalwikimedia.cz to agree on details. I am very bad on answering here on time because I do not wisit Outreach Wiki regularly enough :-). --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 11:06, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Vojtěch Dostál Sure, English is ok. Further information I will write by email. --Mr. Zabej (talk) 14:01, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
