Summary:Alva's College and The Centre for Internet and Society's Access to Knowledge team (CIS-A2K) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to steward the growth of Kannada Wikipedia and to make available free knowledge in Kannada to all Kannada speaking people across the globe.
Alva's College and The Centre for Internet and Society's Access to Knowledge team (CIS-A2K) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to steward the growth of Kannada Wikipedia and to make available free knowledge in Kannada to all Kannada speaking people across the globe. Both the institutions share the following mutual interests:
- Strengthening Indian languages for higher education purposes
- Expanding the digital presence of Indian languages
- Free access to knowledge not just in English but also in Indian languages
The broad objective of this program is to insist Writing Skills, Digital information literacy skills, Ability to critically engage with a concept/theme and Language proficiency skills on the students and These two parties will co-design and jointly develop and implement relevant training programmes to achieve these objectives and also we will endeavour to bring teaching-learning processes onto free and open digital platforms, including Indian language Wikipedia.
On 31 December 2019, this MoU was signed in the presence of Authorities of Alva's college, such as principal, faculty-in-charge of the project, staffs of the language department along with the Student Ambassadors and CIS-A2K staff. Harriet Vidyasagar represented the Wikimedia community.
- Terms of Collaboration
- To promote content generation in Wikimedia projects among the institution. To organise capacity building exercise, awareness programs and training workshop for the students and faculty of the institutions run Alva’s college regarding digital resource and Kannada Wikimedia projects.
- To integrate the academic assignments, projects etc. with knowledge building in Wikimedia projects e.g. Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons.
- To Integrate content from Alva’s college library to Wikidata with the help of the Wikipedia Student’s Association.
