1st joint contest Wikimedia UG Georgia and the Ministry of Education of Georgia

Summary: The contest "Kartvelian studies in Wikipedia", which was held within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Wikimedia UG Georgia, ended on August 15. The purpose of the contest was to enrich Wikipedia with materials based on credible sources, to facilitate free access to information about Kartvelian studies, Kartvelian scholars, and Georgian manuscripts in Wikipedia. 16 users participated in the contest; they created 58 new articles and improved 18 existing articles.


On April 14, 2021, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Wikimedia UG Georgia and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

The purpose of the memorandum is to cooperate in the Georgian language projects of Wikimedia, mainly in the direction of popularization and development of Wikipedia. Within the framework of the memorandum, several projects and contests on various topics will be held in Georgian Wikipedia.

Wikimedia UG Georgia provides relevant training in the framework such that the interested ones will get acquainted with the specifics of Wikipedia articles and will study working in Wikipedia.

The contest, which ended on August 15, "Kartvelian studies in Wikipedia" was held within the above-stated framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation. Its purpose was to enrich Wikipedia with materials based on credible sources, to facilitate free access to information about Kartvelian studies, Kartvelian scholars, and Georgian manuscripts in Wikipedia. 16 users participated in the contest; a total of 58 new articles were created and 18 existing articles were improved.

Prizes for the winners of the contests will be provided by the Ministry of Education and Science.
