The results in the Account Creation Improvement Project were collected in a rather lengthy report. Here are the highlights:
- the surveys showed us that people wanted to be "a part of Wikipedia"
- here are some of the "before" results on various language versions
- below are the results from the first low-quality tests that we ran from February 23-March 30
- the high-quality tests that we ran, showed a very clear "win" for the "ACP1" version of account creation (visible at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&action=submitlogin&type=signup&campaign=ACP1 until the CustomUserSignup extension was removed from en wiki in August 2012).
- when using that version of the account creation process, we can increase the number of newcomers who make 1 edit with 15% on an average day
- that version of the account creation process also increases the number of newcomers who make 5 edits with about 1%. These figures may seem very abstract, but by increasing the inflow of new Wikipedians who make 5 edits from 6.12% to 7.02 on an average day, we gain 9 persons per day! From 59.90 (with the present model) to 68.90 persons (with ACP1).

- Step 1: Log in to the toolserver.
- Step 2: Use the command "sql enwiki_p" to start extracting the data for the English Wikipedia.
- Step 3: Run SQL queries:
- How many user accounts have been created per day in February? (list by day ascending)
- SELECT DAY(user_registration) AS day, count(user_id) FROM user WHERE user_registration IS NOT NULL AND user_registration>"20110200000000" AND user_registration<"20110300000000" GROUP BY day;
- How many of the new users have made at least one edit on the day of account creation?
- SELECT COUNT(*) FROM (select DISTINCT user.user_id from user left JOIN user_daily_contribs ON user.user_id=user_daily_contribs.user_id where user_registration IS NOT NULL AND user_registration>"20110222000000" AND user_registration<"20110223000000" AND day>="2011-02-22" AND day<"2011-02-23") as dummy;
- Note: This gives the number of new users who started editing on the day of account creation. In order to get the data for the next day, the ciphers in bold have to be adjusted.
- ↑ This big number is probably due to that we made it very easy for the new users to create their user page (change discussed and reverted here and here). We have right now no numbers for if they continue to edit after that.
