de.GLAMwiki 2013 - German GLAM workshop
The German Wiki community is currently planning the first German GLAM-related workshop: de.GLAMwiki 2013.
Bringing together longstanding members of the German GLAM community, the German Wikipedia community and the German Chapter is vital for the future of GLAM in Germany. The community-shaped programme includes topics such as GLAM handouts, COI, Paid Editing, a relaunch of the German GLAM page but also fundamental issues like working definitions for GLAM related terms and communication channels.
Results and experiences will be shared on German Wikipedia as a basis for further community-driven discussion and decision-making.
The German-language event will be held in early March 2013 and is funded by the Germany chapter. Interested participants can sign up for the remaining 2 spaces at Wikipedia:GLAM/de.GLAMwiki 2013#Anmeldung. Date, location and accommodation are going to be confirmed within the next few days.
Wikipedian in Residence in Germany
Throughout 2012 we had two Wikipedians in Residence (WiR). One at the Museum for Berlin's history during 3 month, the other during 6 month at the German Archeological Institute. Both projects focussed strongly on the training of the staff becoming editors themselves in the Wikipedia and to establish structures that will help Wikipedians in the future to get in touch with the institution in order to obtain contents for their article work. Intercultural dialogue is the proper way to describe the communication in between the two GLAM institutions and the Wikimedia - projects. Mainly the work of the WiR consisted in trying to explain to the institution how Wikipedia works and to the community why content liberation is not that easy. Progress is obtained at a slow pace, which made us consider if if the short period spent at the institution of time is but a appetizer for more to come. How to transform the start-up into a lasting enterprise, is one of the core question right now. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences handling this dialogue. What are typical frictions, desillusions and prejudices you are confronted with? What helped to overcome misunderstandings?
