Women's History Month
Overview
Women's history month has been very busy! There have been successful edit-a-thons in a number of cities. These included an edit-a-thon for Women in Science at the Smithsonian and another at the University of Oklahoma. Bryn Mawr College also held an edit-a-thon, organized by Marianne Weldon and Evan McGonagill and coached by Mary Mark Ockerbloom. Bryn Mawr has also started releasing images from their collections on Wikimedia Commons. At the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, Mary Mark Ockerbloom worked with oral history staff to release images of women scientists for women's history month and hosted the monthly GLAM Café. Audrey Hamelers and Jordan Howell are organizing an edit-a-thon to be held at the University of Delaware Library in April. The month wrapped up on March 30, with the Women in the Arts Editathon 2014 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Wikipedia Activities in New York
Wikipedia institutional partnerships, events, and community continue to expand in New York and the Northeast.
7-Sisters Edit-a-Thons
On March 1st the 7-Sisters Colleges virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-Thons in the Northeast kicked off with events hosted at Barnard College in New York,Mount Holyoke, Bryn Mawr,Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College, and Smith College.
Columbia Edits
On March 18th, Columbia University Libraries participated in the #GWWI (Global Women Wikipedia Write-In) as a virtual Edit-a-Thon with Emory University. The following week, METRO's WiR, User:OR drohowa gave a talk at Columbia Library on New York Wikipedia Engagement.
WikiConference USA
Wikimedia NYC continues to plan WikiConference USA 2014. It has received around 50 session proposals so far viewable on the site for review, and has extended the deadline for proposals until April 16, 2014.
Józef Piłsudski Institute of America
The Józef Piłsudski Institute of America GLAM project is going strong after the Institute appointed Piotr Puchalski as their volunteer Wikipedian-in-Residence and is adding articles in English and in Polish on their archival materials, including Franciszek Januszewski, and uploads in commons:Category:Collections of Józef Piłsudski Institute of America.
