The Wikipedia Education Program in the United States and Canada began in 2010, with a pilot run by the Wikimedia Foundation. In 2012, the Wikimedia Foundation started a process to spin out the U.S. and Canada program into its own nonprofit organization so that the program could flourish with the attention it needed. The Wiki Education Foundation runs the Wikipedia Education Program in the United States and Canada and is dedicated to increasing students’ contributions to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
