Project idea[edit]

Understanding the value of our huge pool of cumulative knowledge and resources in digital medium sharing it and empowering many others within our community and beyond is necessary for our growth and development together.

Wikimedia and Education Greenhouse project, going to the mainstream Nepalese education system means a win win situation for all the partners. Nepal with great linguistic diversity within can save and preserve its language heritages and realize the power of cumulative knowledge in all variants, taking it to open source digital medium. Similarly, for Wikimedia and Education Greenhouse, it will be a good startup project in Nepal in the Wikipedia Education sector and see how it meets its goal.

Having conducted several outreach programs in various colleges and educational institutions previously without significant students showing active participation in the long run. We have evaluated and have understood we need to shift our activities to meet our goals. Idea is instead of going to the college and educational institutions and targeting the mass audience, we will get the selected only interested students from best performing 8 educational institutions of Province No. 2 of Nepal which includes 8 district according to Municipal Corporation education department and from other reliable sources.

After we pin point one educational institutions from each district, we will select 10 interested students for Train the Students workshop event from each educational institutions. Among 10 students will be 5 male and 5 female keeping in mind our inclusive gender policy.

Initially we will start with orientation program in each educational institutions one every month for eight months. Finally, we will bring together the cohort of 80 students 10 from each educational institutions for the Train the Students workshop event on the ninth month.

What idea do you want to bring to the W&E Greenhouse?[edit]

Describe the context, theme, goals, strategies, duration of your proposed initiative. Be as detailed as possible.

We would like to reach to the group of students of best performing 8 educational institutions of Province No. 2, Nepal to promote and aware them about Wikipedia and its sister projects. We have good experience of conducting the Wikimedia Event in past. There is good number of school and colleges in every district of Province No. 2 but not each school have basic facility like Computer lab, Electricity and Internet connection, so why we are focusing to choose only 1 best performing educational institution from each district which have basic facility like computer lab, electricity and internet connection. We will choose the interested students from each school to achieve our goals to train the students and later after the completion of the training process we will built a task force team to spread their knowledge to other students of the educational institutions. The creation of task force team will help us in enabling the long term sustainability of this project. This way we can promote and aware the students and make this initiative a stronger one for the whole movement. To complete this activities in every district of the Province No.2, we definitely need 9 months of time from the project starting date.
