Please tell us something special about your education program that the data may not reveal. For example:

  • You could highlight an achievement you are particularly proud of.
  • You could acknowledge a special student, educator, or volunteer.
  • You could tell us what you enjoy most about the Wikipedia Education Program.

The Yabatech Wikipedia Education Program Seminar is a seminar that aimed to create awareness about the Wikipedia Education Program. Several Nigerian institutions are not aware that they could collaborate with the Wikimedia Foundation to improve the Wikimedia projects and help grow this amazing resource. We used the seminar to create awareness about the Education Program. No article was created and no images was uploaded. A total number of 52 people attended the seminar. The attendee comprises 7 academic staffs, 28 males and 17 female students. At the end of the seminar, 21 attendee which includes 5 academic staffs and 16 students joined the Wikimedia user Group Nigeria. The seminar was funded from our pocket. We really could not do much in 2015 because we were recognized by the affiliation committee as a user group in August 2015 and the Wikipedia Education Program began activities in October 2015. Although our portal had been created before this period. We are proud of the fact that 21 attendees joined our group and 14 out of the 21 people that joined the group are currently an active members of the community. Early this year, we intend to organize an edit-a-thon that will involves hands-on training on how to become an invaluable contributors to Wikipedia projects. We will organize a special training for academics on how to use Wikipedia for students in class.
