Attendees at the opening session of GLAM-Wiki Canberra 2009

The "Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums & Wikimedia: Finding the common ground" was a conference organized at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra in August 2009 engaging key stakeholders from the four industry groups - Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) across Australia and New Zealand as well as representatives of government, cultural funding organizations and peak representative bodies. In all there were 170 attendees from all Australian States and 50+ institutions. The purpose of the conference was to establish a two-way dialogue to determine how to use the two communities' strengths to a mutual advantage.

  • why and how cultural institutions could work with Wikimedia projects; and
  • what Wikimedia needs to do to make collaboration easier and more effective.

See the Australian GLAM-WIKI page for more information, including an extensive list of media coverage and related blog posts. The conference published a set of recommendations for Australian GLAM-Wikimedia collaborations.
