Enabling the Education Program Extension on other language projects

[edit]

There is currently discussion of enabling the Education Program Extension on two additional language projects: French Wikipedia and Italian Wikipedia. The conversation around French Wikipedia was started by GastelEtzwane on Outreach wiki here and the question about Italian Wikipedia was posed by Elitre (WMF) on Italian Wikipedia here. I invite you all to participate in these conversations, especially if you have knowledge about these specific communities, projects, and languages. Additionally, if the education extension is not yet installed on your Wikimedia project but you would like it to be, please contact me for more information and to discuss how this is done, and please see Education/Extension#Enabling the extension. Cheers! Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 16:52, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Using the Education Program Extension on French Wikisource

[edit]

Dear Friends,

Last night in Berlin at WMCON15, I was talking about the EP extension with a Canadian French Wikisourcer, Ernest Boucher, User:Ernest-Mtl.

He is very interested in using the education program extension on French Wikisource with his university students in Canada. But he's not sure if it will work in the Wikisource context. We have never deployed it to a WS before. And I'm not a Wikisourcer. So I'm not sure about the technicalities he describes. Wikisource sounds like it's a special use case. Apparently, it's very much a one-off. It seems to be a bit different than most other WM projects. Which makes me want to try it out there even more! :)

His concern, if I understand it right, is that each book gets its own namespace, and students edit uncategorized book pages, not categorized books. Some students don't make a single edit to a page, but they do mark pages as reviewed. To my mind, that is a contribution that the education program would want to track, but is it trackable with the Extension? Because otherwise, those edits must be hunted down manually. Which sounds pretty awful. It makes me think that maybe what they need more than an extension to track contribution is a bot to add categories to pages automatically. But that may just be me oversimplifying things I don't fully understand.

If you have experience using the Extension and/or Wikisource, please share any insights about how the Extension might help Ernest and his education program and let me know your sense of whether or not the Extension would be a good fit for this project so that I can relay that information to him.

Thank you all very much, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 06:49, 14 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Transitioning to the Programs and Events Dashboard in 2018

Most of the stakeholders in this are unaware of this project page on outreach. Instead find them in these places:
The English Wikipedia Education Noticeboard has had the most discussion about this including the most people, with the Account Creator page having a lot also. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:31, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
