Template:Interlanguage link multi/doc
Template:Strong for Template:Terminate sentence It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Purpose
[edit]So long as the page on this wiki does not exist (i.e. is "a red link"), this template temporarily displays links to one or more corresponding non-English Wikipedia articles. The red link is explicitly shown, followed by the non-English link(s). Hovering over the language code of a non-English link will display the name of the article on the non-English Wikipedia. Once the English article is created, the non-English link(s) will not be shown.
Usage
[edit]There are several ways of using this template. It can produce links to one or more specific languages or to the Wikidata table of languages. There can also be a link to Magnus Manske's Reasonator Wikidata item viewer.
The shortcut {{illm}} may be used. Template:Columns-start
Link to specific languages
[edit]To link to specific languages, the parameters are:
{{illm|Article title in English Wikipedia|language1 code|title in language1 Wikipedia|language2 code|title in language2 Wikipedia|...}}
There can be 1 to 5 languages. For example:
{{illm|Joke|fr|Blague|hu|Vicc|de|Witz}}
Since the article Joke exists, this displays:
precisely the same as [[Joke]]. However, since Jokery does not exist
{{illm|Jokery|fr|Blague|hu|Vicc|de|Witz}}
displays:
If the article title on the foreign language Wikipedia is left blank, the English language name will be used. For example, if Charles Darwin did not exist
{{illm|Charles Darwin|fr||de||es|}}
would link to the French, German and Spanish articles of the same title.
Note The template halts as soon as a blank language code is found. Thus {{illm|Carolus Darwin|fr|Charles Darwin|||es|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin}}
would only output a link to the French Wikipedia.
Template:Column
Link to the Wikidata table of languages
[edit]To link to the Wikidata table of languages in which the article is available, the parameters are:
{{illm|Article title in English Wikipedia|WD=Wikidata item code}}
All links to other Wikipedias are ignored if |WD=
is present. Thus since Jokery does not exist
{{illm|Jokery|WD=Q131138}}
outputs
Link to Reasonator
[edit]To link to Reasonator, add any value for the parameter |reasonator=
. If a Wikidata item is linked, then the Reasonator link goes to the page for that item; if not, then a search is performed on Reasonator for that item.
Input | Output |
---|---|
{{illm|Jokery|WD=Q131138|reasonator=1}} |
Jokery |
{{illm|Jokery|reasonator=1}} |
Jokery |
Forcing links
[edit]If interlanguage/Wikidata/Reasonator links are to be displayed even if the English Wikipedia article exists, add any of the values 1
, y
, yes
or force
for the parameter |display=
.
Input | Output |
---|---|
{{illm|Joke|fr|Blague|hu|Vicc|de|Witz}} |
Joke |
{{illm|Joke|fr|Blague|hu|Vicc|de|Witz|display=1}} |
Joke |
Piped links
[edit]A "piped link" in the English Wikipedia (as in [[Charles Darwin (botanist)|Charles Darwin]]) can be created by using |lt=
for the visible link text. Thus since Charles Darwin (botanist) does not exist
{{illm|Charles Darwin (botanist)|lt=Charles Darwin|fr|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin|es|Charles Darwin}}
displays
Note Do not use {{!}}
to create piped links: {{illm|Maze (band){{!}}Maze|...}}
is not equivalent to {{illm|Maze (band)|lt=Maze|...}}
. The former will not cause the foreign language links to disappear when the English article exists.
Remove bold formatting from links
[edit]Usually the display of the Interlanguage or Wikidata or the Reasonator (the "appended link") are in normal font, but if the appended link is for example in a title line of table, then along with the rest of the line the appended link will be bold. In such circumstances the appended link can be set to display unbolded by adding any value for the parameter |nobold=
.
Input | Output |
---|---|
'''{{illm|Charles Darwin (botanist)|fr|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin}}''' |
Charles Darwin (botanist) |
'''{{illm|nobold=1|Charles Darwin (botanist)|fr|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin}}''' |
Charles Darwin (botanist) |
Vertical alignment
[edit]The vertical alignment of the interlanguage/Wikidata/Reasonator links can be altered by adding:
vertical-align=sup
to place the links in superscriptvertical-align=sub
to place the links in subscript
Input | Output |
---|---|
{{illm|vertical-align=sup|Charles Darwin (botanist)|fr|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin}} |
Charles Darwin (botanist)[Template:Separated entries] |
{{illm|vertical-align=sub|Charles Darwin (botanist)|fr|Charles Darwin|de|Charles Darwin}} |
Charles Darwin (botanist) (Template:Separated entries) |
Examples
[edit]{{illm|TC Matic|af|TC Matic|nl|TC Matic|fr|TC Matic|es|TC Matic}}
gives TC Matic , because TC Matic exists here{{illm|TC Matic (band)|af|TC Matic|nl|TC Matic|fr|TC Matic|es|TC Matic}}
gives TC Matic (band) , because TC Matic (band) does not exist here{{illm|TC Matic (band)|af||nl||fr||es|}}
gives TC Matic (band) – although shown in blue the interwiki links won't work because they default to the title "TC Matic (band)" which is wrong{{illm|TC Matic (band)|lt=TC Matic|af|TC Matic|nl|TC Matic|fr|TC Matic|es|TC Matic}}
gives TC Matic – the text "TC Matic" now redlinks to "TC Matic (band)"{{illm|TC Matic|lt=TC Matic (band)|af|TC Matic|nl|TC Matic|fr|TC Matic|es|TC Matic}}
gives TC Matic (band) – the text "TC Matic (band)" now links to "TC Matic" which exists
