The new navigation is .. interesting. I have to say that I find none of the labels intuitively understandable, i.e., it's not clear to me from looking at the navigation what the project is about and what the different categories are. Lennart, can you elaborate a bit on what you're trying to do here?--Eloquence (talk) 23:24, 13 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Of course. When we set out to re-organize the Bookshelf, one of the first things we did was to decide that we wanted either tabs or a navigation box at the top. It should be fairly simply so it didn't take up too much space on the page. This is my first attempt at redesigning it. I decided to lump together the smaller Wikimedia projects into one category. This was perhaps the hardest decision, since there are many enthusiasts that want to make sure that "their" Wikimedia project is prominently displayed, but from the outside, there hasn't been that much interest, and there hasn't been that much written about them. In the old version we had several links that were red, and that would not lead to very big bookshelves, even if they were to become blue.
Next I/we thought about what other Bookshelves we wanted. Sage and Annie were working with getting a good bookshelf for the Public Policy Initiative and the Ambassadors Programme, so Education seemed a good target group. This lead to a search for the biggest target groups, both as potential for new materials and for existing materials. We have worked a little bit with materials for journalists and marketing people. This made me create one page for each of those. I know that the names are hardly perfect, but we could have short explanations below the links - and there are explanations on the pages. The project page I haven't done anything about for a while, since it seemed as though people didn't use it very much; nearly no discussions, people worked in silence on their translations, and there were more action-oriented pages such as the one about localization. I had planned to re-vamp that page too, but it slipped my mind.
So, if you have an alternative way of structuring the material I am very happy to re-organize it. Perhaps it's as easy as to do what the GLAM page does, to ask "who are you?"//Hannibal (talk) 07:59, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
