In my free time, I edit Wikimedia projects with the username Spinster. I started contributing to English Wikipedia in 2003. After a hiatus (starting a family), I also became an active Commons editor, was a board member and volunteer for Wikimedia Nederland, and I have been enthusiastically contributing to Wikidata for a few years now. I was a (paid) Wikipedian in Residence in 2014 and in Spring-Autumn 2017.
I'm a Belgian citizen, but I live and work in the Netherlands. I have a Master of Arts in art history from Ghent University, and have worked on various internet and video projects in the Dutch cultural sector.
In my free time, when I'm not editing Wikidata or another Wikimedia project, I like to explore cities, cycle around the Dutch countryside, look at weird contemporary art, or chase snails away from my balcony garden.
I'm Program Officer in the Community Programs team at the Wikimedia Foundation. I work primarily for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons. From July 2017 - January 2018 I was also a part-time Community Liaison for this project; that work is now continued by Keegan Peterzell.
I make sure that the needs and requirements of cultural institutions (GLAMs - Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) are included in the new technologies that are developed for Wikimedia Commons. Interested GLAM staff are warmly invited to join the dedicated focus group.
In 2017-2019, the project Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons improves Wikimedia Commons, allowing users to better view, translate, search, edit, curate and use media files. To achieve that, the Commons backend is migrated to Wikibase, the same technology used for Wikidata.
