Greetings, I work on the Catalyst Projects at Wikimedia.

Sara is a member of the Global Development team where she serves as a Catalyst Project Associate supporting work relating to Brazil and the Middle East/North Africa. This includes grant-writing support, geographic-specific research for the Global Education Program, aiding an upcoming Arabic Wikipedia Convening, and planning editing and outreach events with the Arabic and Portuguese WP communities.

Tasks
[edit]- Write grant proposal for support of Global Education Program work in the Middle East and North Africa
- Aid in the planning and execution of an Arabic Wikipedia Convening
- Aid in the development of a high quality offline Portuguese Wikipedia by supporting local efforts to create an editing competition and encourage participation
- Help to communicate activities from Catalyst Projects across broader movement (e.g., blogging, email, on wiki)
- Begin to develop and implement a system for capturing and sharing lessons learned and the results of global development programs in the Global South, for example with grants, event planning, and educational outreach.

- Increase knowledge about MENA/Brasil regions through interviews and research
- Enrich statistics on these areas for Wikimedia
- Increase social features for WP
- Arabic Wikipedia increase by 50% in terms of submissions
- Study more Arabic and Portuguese
- Support local chapters and convening across the Global South/elsewhere
- Coordinate a meetup in MENA with Mozilla, CC and Wikimedia (Winter 2012/Spring 2012)
- Complete semester on collaborative project with Columbia University New Media course and Wikimedia Foundation (started: 9/2011)
