SBL hit
[edit]- @SPatnaik (WMF): I think this is what you were talking about on meta-wiki? Please reply here, since you have Flow on your talk and I hate Flow! :) Xaosflux (talk) 14:13, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

- @SPatnaik (WMF): I think you are being blocked because of the global blacklist. We can add a local whitelist (at MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist) but your link is a bit unusual for the type that normally get whitelisted. Are you actually needing to link to a "search" on twitter - or is there a better link for them? Xaosflux (talk) 14:16, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux: That's a campaign we are running on twitter called #EduWiki, and the link goes to live tweets with #EduWiki.SPatnaik (WMF) (talk) 14:49, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SPatnaik (WMF): ok, saw you updated the WL, keep in mind this applies to all editors on this project. Xaosflux (talk) 17:39, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

- @SPatnaik (WMF): for changes like that, please notify the community, including the local administrators, with a post on the Outreach Wikimedia:Village pump. I don't think that you'll be reverted, but local users including the local admins should know what's being changed and why. Thanks. ↠Pine (✉) 17:51, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Pine:, I wasn't sure what's the problem is, as in general Twitter links are allowed and this wasn't, but sure I will start a discussion on VP.SPatnaik (WMF) (talk) 18:02, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SPatnaik (WMF): twitter search results are blocked globally (see discussion) as they contain arbitrary dynamic content that is not normally useful for our projects, which use external links primarily as references for verifying facts. That is also why I was trying to get you to describe this a bit more to see if there was better way to link to these. I'm not very active on this project and primarily hold administrator access only for technical support - so following up where @Pine: suggested would probably be best. Hi @SPatnaik (WMF): thanks. There probably won't be objections, but local admins should be informed regarding proposed or actual significant changes to the wiki. Also, while you're at the VP, please let us know what the bit.ly and Google links that you whitelisted are intended to facilitate. I trust your good faith but other admins should know about this. Also, for changes to the Spam-whitelist page that are not urgent, I request that you propose those changes in advance on the Village Pump instead of making them first and then communicating later. There should be consensus regarding changes to the configuration for this site. Thanks. ↠Pine (✉) 01:37, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Can you take a look at outreach:Wikimedia:Village_pump#Recent_edits_by_TMenang. --Minorax (talk) 00:26, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Minorax: we've replied there, thank you. Xaosflux (talk) 00:56, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
