Wikimedia:Blocking policy

From Outreach Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Blocking is the method by which administrators may technically prevent users from editing. Blocks may be applied to user accounts, to IP addresses, and to ranges of IP addresses, for either a definite or indefinite time. A blocked user can continue to access Wikipedia, but is not able to edit any page, except (in most cases) their own user talk page.

Common block reasons

  • Inserting false information
  • Removing content from pages
  • Spamming links to external sites
  • Inserting nonsense/gibberish into pages
  • Intimidating behaviour/harassment
  • Abusing multiple accounts
  • Unacceptable username
  • Creating off-topic pages
  • Open proxy or zombie (see Meta:No open proxies)
