This is a preliminary role description for the "Article Quality Controller, Cairo Education Pilot." This is a volunteer (unpaid) role.

Overall[edit]

The Article Quality Controller is a crucial volunteer element of the Cairo Education Pilot. This person is in charge of monitoring and tracking the on-wiki activities of participating students, and regularly updating the Global Education Program Manager about the quality, progress, and potential problems of students' edits.

Responsibilities/Expectations[edit]

  • Monitor on-wiki contributions of all students participating in the Cairo Education Pilot (student usernames will be listed on the course page of each participating class).
  • Track the following, and send weekly updates (in English) to Global Education Program Manager about them:
    • On-wiki activity level of students (for example: "This class began making edits in sandboxes this week," or "This class still has not started editing Wikipedia");
    • General quality of student edits (for example: "This class is producing great articles in general - the article that student X is working on is especially high-quality," or "Students in this class are contributing high-quality content in general but we have to do a better job reminding them of the importance of keeping a neutral point of view in their writing");
    • Potential problems with students' on-wiki activities (for example: "About 10% of the students in this class are not citing reliable sources," or "Wikipedian X has left a warning message on the userpages of Student Y and Student Z and the Online Ambassador is now engaged in a heated argument with Wikipedian X about them," or "Student Y is making a lot of edits that make me nervous because they could be seen as un-encyclopedic").

Time Commitment[edit]

  • Approximately 3–5 hours a week, on average: some weeks will be busier (when students are making a lot of edits on-wiki) and other weeks will be slower (when student activity level on-wiki is low).

Requirements/Qualifications[edit]

  • Extensive experience editing the Arabic Wikipedia; solid knowledge of Arabic Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
  • Patience and ability to monitor and look through a large number of on-wiki edits made by different editors.
  • Ability to accurately and quickly evaluate the general quality of a large number of on-wiki edits made by different editors.
  • Ability to identify potential problems with on-wiki edits.
  • Ability to write and speak English comprehensibly.
  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and dedicated.
