Collaboration with the New Vision Organization in Tirana

In 2021, Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group (WoALUG) collaborated for the very first time with the New Vision Organization based in Tirana, Albania. This non-profit organization works with young people. Its mission is to develop volunteering work at different social aspects and to raise awareness regarding the community.

On July 2, 2021, the New Vision Organization invited us to participate in the outdoor training with the topic of Leadership. Therefore, we presented a session about how youth can develop leadership skills through Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects.

The group consisted of 17 participants and everyone enjoyed the session by asking questions about Wikipedia; why we should contribute to the Wikipedia community; how to accept and receive knowledge in order to develop their leadership skills, to be persuasive in their arguments, to learn how to communicate and to be aware to get things better and much more. In the end, participants had the opportunity to wrap up the information it was presented and everyone offered to participate in the coming campaigns that Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group is developing.

Summer of Wikivoyage Campaign 2021

At the beginning of July Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group (WoALUG) opened the campaign of Summer of Wikivoyage 2021 online which was finalized with the edi-a-thon by the end of the month. We kept our audience updated and reminded them of the Wikivoyage Campaign once a week through social media in order to participate in it.

Summer of Wikivoyage 2021 was a very successful edit-a-thon that was developed in the north-eastern Albania, in Rubik, on July 30 - August 1. We had the pleasure to invite a group of new and experienced Wikimedians. The new Wikimedians are part of the New Vision Organization and serve as regular volunteers in the community.

During this edit-a-thon, we focused on writing, improving and adding new information to the existing articles especially from the Mirdita region located in the north-eastern Albania. On the first day of the event we came up with some introduction and refreshment about the Wikivoyage platform and decided what topics and regions we planned to write about. On the second day, we went hiking and explored the town regarding its landmarks, restaurants, bars and the surroundings with the intention to include the information online.

Nevertheless, we did not limit ourselves only to the northern part of Albania, some of us even wrote about districts and areas all over Albania and Kosovo, as well. At the end of each day we posted on social media what we developed and created by sharing articles online to keep our community informed.

The whole group created 13 articles and edited 52 pages for three days in a row.
