This is a space for collaboration on how Wiki[p/m] should and can be involved in the open educational resources space. Wikipedia is obviously the largest, free, encyclopedic resource, and as such a resource it has great potential to be incorporated into the broader OER landscape.

Open Educational Resources have been championed by various foundations and organizations as the way to equalize access to the highest quality content.

Wikiversity[edit]

Wikiversity is a Wikimedia Foundation project devoted to learning resources, learning projects, and research for use in all levels, types, and styles of education from pre-school to university, including professional training and informal learning. Teachers, learners, educationalists and researchers are invited to join in creating open educational resources and collaborative learning communities.

Potential areas for involvement[edit]

  • Automatic linkages of words to online resources to Wikipedia articles
  • Incorporation into e-textbooks:
    • Automatic linking of words to Wikipedia articles (e.g., with the first section of the article pops up when you highlight a given word)
      • Note: depending on the nature of the e-textbooks, this may be an area for Wikiversity
  • Partnerships for distribution of Offline Wikipedia
