Old
[edit]The use of wikis in the classroom is becoming more common. However, many instructors use private wikis that have been setup by the university where they are teaching. For WMF outreach it is important to learn the preferences of faculty, and understand the pros and cons of private wikis if we are to encourage the use of Wikimedia at educational institutions. This page documents the use of private wikis at Brown, including workshops that I have attended there. --mikeu talk 17:05, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Enhancing Student Engagement: the WIKI Collaborative Workspace
[edit]The links below are notes from a March 2008 faculty roundtable at Brown University on the use of wikis in the classroom. The focus was primarily on the use of Brown's Confluence enterprise wiki though more general issues were also covered. The discussion brings up some interesting points about the use of collaborative workspaces for students and the preferences that the instructors have for using them.

So-called "Wikipedia Art"
[edit]While searching for links to create this page about the educational use of wikis I stumbled upon two student projects that were submitted as part of a Fall 2010 Digital Art course. They are documented here:
Both involved edits at Wikipedia which were later reverted as vandalism.[1] [2] (This is not the first time that Wikipedia has been the target of an "art" project; see: Wikipedia Art controversy and Wikipedia Art.) --mikeu talk 18:01, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
