Presentation for school librarians at Wikiteka, Ongoing projects
ByPresentation for school librarians at Wikiteka in Katowice
Kamila Neuman, Open Culture Manager, during the second edition of Wikiteka, shared her passion for GLAM-Wiki collaboration with school librarians. In her presentation on how GLAM-Wiki projects can serve as a source of inspiration for their educational activities, she explained what GLAM-Wiki partnerships entail, their effects, how they can be used in school education, and how to creatively utilize digital resources and content on Wikipedia related to culture and art. The presentation also served as an introduction to the Wikimedia Commons project and demonstrated how to search for unique resources within it and use them correctly.
What is WIKITEKA? It's a project by Wikimedia Poland launched in 2022 as part of the long-term WIKISCHOOL program. We invite school librarians to join us in creating new educational spaces, exploring a new framework for the school library as a place for equalizing educational opportunities, generating open educational resources, and initiating community projects together. At the end of August, the second edition of Wikiteka began in Katowice, where a new group of school librarians started their journey with Wikimedia projects.
Ongoing projects in August
While August is usually a time for relaxation and vacations, the Wikimedia Poland team was also busy with intensive work on our ongoing projects. Our Open Culture Manager, along with interns and volunteers, has been working on the new version of the GLAM-Wiki website. Preparations are also underway for an editing campaign related to the painter Jan Matejko at The National Museum in Krakow. The end of August provided an opportunity for the entire Wikimedia Poland team, which primarily operates online, to meet in Warsaw. Together, we reviewed our activities for the year and initiated the planning process for the upcoming year.
