Engaging the experts & thinking about mental health at the Wellcome
In July, as part of the Wellcome Library Residency, staff from the Wellcome Library attended conferences including the biennial conference of the Society for the Social History of Medicine, and Science in Public (sponsored by the British Society for the History of Science). We talked about the residency, spread the word about the online content and encouraged its reuse, and recruited some expert evaluators to scrutinize history of mental health content on Wikiprojects in preparation for events surrounding the launch of Bedlam: the Asylum and Beyond.
The residency was also featured in The Lancet, along with an Audio Feature interview.[1]
Plans are continuing for mental health and psychiatry themed edit-a-thons and Wikiproject content improvement, both to link with Bedlam and for World Mental Health Day.
Training & Training the Trainers
The first training session of the Wellcome Library residency took place on 25 July. More information on participants, edits, etc., can be found in the monthly report on the residency.
Editors from a variety of institutions, including several GLAMs, attended a Train the Trainers session at Wikimedia UK headquarters in London on the weekend of 30-31 July. London has relatively few trainers for events, so hopefully this training should help to improve supply. Attendees were also present from the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
