A course on opening cultural collections
ByCultura para Abrir: A course on opening cultural collections
On 7th June we launched our first virtual course on policies of open access, intellectual property and the potencial of working with Wikimedia projects with heritage, aimed at workers from cultural institutions. More than 600 professionals from Argentina and other latinamerican countries have signed on, involving diverse institutions such as libraries, museums, cultural centers, reserach institutions, historical places and archives.
This course's programme is divided in four thematic units that include a review of concepts such as open access and free licences, open glam iniciatives involving wikimedia projects, intelectual property limitations and opportunities, resources on digitization, preservation and metadata production. At the end of the course, participants are encouraged to write a short project adopting some open access practices around collections preserved by the cultural institution where they work, do reserach or study.
We are very enthusiastic about the results of this first cultural course organized by Wikimedia Argentina and we hope to share them with you very soon.
