In June, Wojtek Szczęsny, Wikipedian in Residence at the National Library in Warsaw, created and developed articles on the English Wikipedia related to the newly opened Permanent exhibition at the Palace of the Commonwealth. In addition to an overview article about the exhibition, Permanent exhibition in the Palace of the Commonwealth, 27 new articles about individual objects presented in it were created. Another 34 existing articles were developed with information about objects from this exhibition. June at the National Museum in Krakow is the time for an editing challenge focused on the life and work of one of Poland's greatest artists, Jacek Malczewski. On this occasion, edits were made on Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikipedia.

The challenge accompanies the "Month with the MNK Matejko House", during which the Wikipedian in Residence, Agata Stadnicka, made edits related to the history and collections of the museum branch.

Summary of Internships from the National Center for Culture

For over a year, the GLAM-Wiki in Wikimedia Poland has been supported by interns as part of the "Practice in Culture" program by the National Center for Culture. In the four editions of the NCK program, a total of 8 people have interned in culture. Agata Stadnicka, who was one of the first interns in Open Culture, has been a Wikipedian in Residence at National Museum in Krakow since March this year. Collectively, the interns have completed over 2,500 hours of internships in over a year.

As part of their tasks, they collaborated with the Open Culture Manager, Wikipedians in Residence, and partner cultural institutions, engaging in editing Wikimedia projects, such as creating Wikipedia articles and entering metadata into Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, for example, in the WikiMatejko editing action. They cooperated in developing educational and promotional materials, as well as developing the new GLAM-Wiki website. They helped develop a comprehensive GLAM-Wiki project evaluation system and create evaluation surveys. Additionally, they provided administrative support, including preparing various reports and analyses, and supported the Open Culture Manager in ongoing tasks.

Kamila Neuman: I am very pleased that for over a year I have had the opportunity to work with young people, developing the area of GLAM-Wiki activities. These are incredibly valuable individuals who bring their perspective to my work and are eager to take on new challenges. I am very grateful to all of them for their contribution and dedication to the development of GLAM-Wiki collaborations; without them, many projects would not have their current shape or would not have been realized at all. This has been a very valuable time for me, full of many hours of joint conversations and online meetings. I wish them all success in their career plans and hope that thanks to their internships at Wikimedia Poland, they will actively promote and support open culture

Wikipedians in residence meetup

The second online meeting of Wikipedians in Residence this year took place on June 19. The participants included: Wojtek Szczęsny, Wikipedian in Residence at the National Library in Warsaw, Grzegorz Gogacz, Wikipedian in Residence at the Warsaw Public Library; Agata Stadnicka, Wikipedian in Residence at the National Museum in Krakow; Kamila Neuman, Open Culture Manager at Wikimedia Poland and Łukasz Cegliński, intern in Open Culture at WMPL.

The meetings with Wikipedians in Residence are a space for exchanging knowledge and experiences, as well as establishing common standards of operation within Wikiresidencies. During the June meeting, we analyzed and discussed ways to measure the effects of Wikiresidencies and the tools used for this purpose. The aim of our discussions was to streamline the methodology of data collection and the tools used, as well as to identify necessary functionalities that would help measure specific effects more easily and automatically.

We also talked about ways to present the effects of GLAM-Wiki collaborations, particularly in the context of working on the new GLAM-Wiki website.

10th European GLAM-Wiki coordinators meetup

In June, the tenth meeting of European GLAM-Wiki coordinators took place. Thirteen people participated. During the meeting, Susanna Anas from AvoinGLAM presented a summary of the AI Sauna event, which took place in Finland on May 6-7, 2024. More about the event on the meta page and in the presentation.

Wikipedian in residence at the Queen Sofia National Museum Art Centerin Madrid, Carolina Espinoza Cartes, presented her activities from the last two years. She talked about the Hablando en data data visualization project carried out by the Museum's Library and the University of Salamanca, which aims to connect and gather available information about these creators in other databases and share the results through the website. A guest at the meeting was also Brigitte Vezina, Director of Policy and Open Culture at Creative Commons, who spoke about TAROC (Towards a Recommendation on Open Culture) - a community initiative led by Creative Commons aimed at supporting the international community in developing a positive, affirmative, and influential international normative instrument (recommendation) that promotes values, goals, and mechanisms conducive to the development of open culture. Brigitte asked the participants to share stories that confirm that open culture brings real benefits and impacts our environment.

The meeting also addressed the topic of the GLAM Global Meetup, which will take place on the preconference day of Wikimania in Katowice.

Online meetings of European GLAM-Wiki coordinators were initiated after the coordinators' meeting in Prague in September 2022, organized by Liam Wyatt as part of a series of live meetings. Their goal is the ongoing exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as building a supportive network for coordinators working in the GLAM-Wiki area. So far, a total of ten online meetings have taken place. The team initiating and organizing these online meetings and events includes Kamila Neuman from Wikimedia Poland, Michelle van Lanschot from Wikimedia Netherlands, and Giovanna Fontenelle from the Wikimedia Foundation.
