Go-ahead for Wikidata Project of GLAM institutions from Baden-Württemberg
ByThe GLAM-BW Project
The GLAM-BW project is currently being conducted as part of the "GLAM goes OpenData" project by the Landesmuseum Württemberg and the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg. The aim is to connect major collections held by museums in Baden-Württemberg (and abroad) by uploading information on collectors, former collection locations, collecting histories, and objects.
Focus on the Kunst- and Wunderkammer
The project is focused on the collections of the württembergische Kunstkammer (Cabinet of Curiosities) of the House of Württemberg. With more than 3,000 preserved objects, the Kunstkammer of the Dukes of Württemberg is one of the most important historical art chambers in Europe and is characterized by a particularly dense collection. However, the State Museum does not keep all the objects. Over the course of the 19th century, parts of the Kunstkammer were transferred to many different institutions. Today, parts of the collection are distributed among the State Museum of Natural History, the Linden Museum and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. In addition to precious works of craftsmanship, the collection includes objects imported to Europe from distant countries and a wealth of curious objects, stuffed animals, magical objects, bronzes, clocks, miniatures, coins and much more. In the knowledge graph, information such as the places where the objects were made and stored, collectors and dates can be displayed and searched semantically and exploratively. The corresponding archival records of the State Archives can also be linked.
