Seminar at The National Archives of Norway and Sami music and culture festivals
ByBodil Biørn seminar at The National Archives of Norway
The first part of our Bodil Biørn project is soon done. Wikimedia Armenia is working on the final translations of the image descriptions from English to Armenian. In June Wikimedia Norge organized a Bodil Biørn seminar together with The National Archives of Norway. The second part of this project will be to transcribe and translate letters Biørn wrote about her stay in Armenia. The already digitalized images and letters will provide a unique documentation collected by a woman from the Armenian genocide.
Images are uploaded to Commons and image descriptions will be added in August 2018
Northerns Sami project on the road: Riddu Riđđu festival and Márkomeannu festival
This summer Wikimedia Norge has visited two music festivals. Riddu Riđđu festival is an music and cultural festival promoting and developing the Sami coastal culture. It also has a lot of international artists on the program. Márkomeannu is a Sami cultural and music festival held near the border of the municipalities of Skånland in Troms and Evenes in Nordland in northern Norway. The idea behind Márkomeannu is to celebrate the culture and traditions of the Sámi villages. At Márkomeannu Wikimedia Norge took part by joining the festival library organized by the county library of Nordland.
At the festivals we held editing workshops, had meetings with different Sami institutions and talked to a lot of the festival participants on how and why they should contribute to the Northern Sami Wikipedia. Both festivals will share their photo collections from this year's festivals under a free license as well. Images will be uploaded to this category on Commons,
