Swiss GLAM Programme
ByGLAM-on-Tour Fonoteca
The third GLAM-On-Tour in 2023 took place at the Swiss National Sound Archives. It was dedicated to women in Audio who have done significant work in the audio industry. The event was held in French, German and Italian with contributions in these three languages.
For more information and the results have a look at the project page. The fonoteca preserves audio documents and hosts technology to restore vinyl discs. The event was the second GLAM-on-Tour with this institution. Still there are not many materials on women in the audio industry although they did significant contributions and technical innovations. Further informations are in this report in German language with the group foto.
GLAM Wiki Conference
Uruguay hosted the GLAM Wiki international conference, where wikimedians, libraries, museum workers, archivists and artists meet to discuss access to culture and memory in digital spaces. Over fifty presencial activities (labs, light talks, presentations, training sessions etc.) and 10 online activities took place before and during the conference. The presentations were very interesting and the conversations with the GLAM community very enriching. The full program can be found here.
Wikimedia Switzerland was represented by Ivonne Gónzalez with the project Noircir Wikipédia. Ivonne presented together with Mariana Fossati (Whose Knowledge?) the project Reclaiming our voices in GLAM. Further topics were the use of Wikimedia project content in artificial intelligence applications and how corporate datasets are becoming increasingly closed and inaccessible to the Global South. With cocreation living heritage has been created with CC-license as human sculptures.
GLAM Meeting in the German Language Region
The 10th GLAM Meeting in the German language region took place on the 11th and 12th of November in Berlin 2023. Germany, Austria and Switzerland exchanged what is happening in GLAM in each country. The aim of these meetings is to better connect with eachother and to share ideas for future projects. The meeting was organized mainly by Wikimedia Germany and took place also virtually on Zoom.
Subjects have been recent topics from last Wikimania, decolonisation in GLAM institutions, the foto competitions and many more. In worldcoffee workshops ideas were developed together. Switzerland will start the programme GLAM Ambassadors in 2024. For more detailled informations about the topics discussed read the protocol in German language.
