Serbian Ministry of Culture supporting GLAM
BySerbian Ministry of Culture financing the Wikipedian in residence program
Ministry of Culture and Information of Republic of Serbia once again approved project proposal by Wikimedia Serbia for organizing and realizing three two-months Wikipedian in residence programs in 2019. This is the second year of financial support by Serbian Ministry of culture for the GLAM program. During 2018 funds of Ministry was used to realize three two-month residences - in the Museum of Yugoslavia, Museum of Vojvodina and Historical Archive of Pirot. But the state support opened the door of many other cultural institutions for residences and other GLAM models of cooperation. Wikipedians spent time hard working in the City Museum of Vrbas, Historical Archive of Pancevo, Republic Institute for the protection of cultural heritage of Serbia, Museum of Vojvodinian Slovaks… More than 2100 images are released, 370 new articles were written, 27 significantly improved, and 18 books with 5 photo-albums were digitized (2950 digitized pages). This year Wikipedians will resident in the National Museum in Zrenjanin, Museum of Vojvodinian Slovaks and Historical Archive of Negotin.
Wikipedians in residences at WikiLive round table
During the local Wikipedian conference WikiLive, held 20 and 21 April, Wikipedians in residences from Serbia gathered to discuss all aspects of their work in cultural institutions. WIRs, with the GLAM coordinator, were analyzing mistakes, challenges, achieved outcomes, possibilities for the future cooperations and potential solutions of various issues. It was a very productive meet-up, showing us some great guidelines for developing this program.
