Free music on Wikipedia
Wikimedia Sverige has had several fruitful discussions with the Swedish Performing Arts Agency about how they can contribute material related to Sweden's music history to the Wikimedia projects. With their vast archival collections they have a lot to bring to our project Free Music on Wikipedia, whose aim is to share out-of-copyright music and related materials with the Wikimedia community.
Of particular interest is their collection of recordings made by Swedish folklorist Matts Arnberg in the 1950's and 1960's. Working for the Swedish Radio, Arnberg traveled all around Sweden and Swedish-speaking Finland and recorded examples of traditional folk music. The Swedish Performing Arts Agency now has all those recordings and we are excited to share that they decided to release this valuable collection as CC0. This means we will be uploading the first batch of several hundred audio files later this summer!
