FIMS Graduate Library Wiki Club Lunch & Learn
Written by Erin Bourgard, Acting Director of the FIMS Graduate Library; published byFIMS Graduate Library Wiki Club Lunch & Learn
The FIMS Graduate Library is hosting monthly Wikipedia meetups focused on the overlapping connection between information professionals – librarians, journalist, media providers – and Wikipedia editorship. Held on the third Monday of each month, this Wiki Club is an opportunity for faculty, students, and staff at Western University's Faculty of Information and Media Studies learn about Wikipedia and to improve the information in its articles. Food and refreshments for our monthly meetup is funded through Wikimedia Canada. While editing, we engage in conversations about Wikipedia and its place within the wider open information ecosystem.
In October, we held the 2nd Wiki Club meet up as a pizza party that coincided with Open Access Week. There were seven attendees, and the editing activity was focused on learning how to add reference citations to Wikipedia articles.
