Netherlands report
Have you ever considered creating a Wikipedia article on a fashion staple that seems so familiar yet remains undocumented? That’s the heart of Wiki Loves Fashion 2024, a campaign to enrich Dutch Wikipedia with new articles on fashion.
The event concluded with a special gathering at the National Archives in The Hague, hosted in collaboration with the Wiki goes Caribbean project. Fashion designer and historian Laurindo Andrea captivated attendees with insights into the cultural heritage embedded in fashion. He stressed the importance of accurate metadata on Wikimedia Commons for preserving this heritage, sparking participants to dive into Wikipedia editing. With the help of the ISA tool, they enhanced descriptions and metadata to make fashion items even more discoverable and accessible.

ByWiki Loves Fashion 2024: Where Tradition and Modern Glamour met
This year marked the third Wiki Loves Fashion event in the Netherlands, an initiative aimed at expanding freely accessible knowledge on fashion, textiles, and clothing while addressing Wikipedia’s gender gap. During the campaign week, held from September 28 to October 5, several new articles were added to Dutch Wikipedia. From the origins of the skirt to the invention of false eyelashes and the cultural significance of the Heru, the additions highlighted both iconic and underrepresented elements of fashion history.
