Data for all countries

[edit]

The datafile contains all data gathered so far. The data has been cleansed. In addition to the basic variables from the questionnaire it contains extra variables which may be useful for the analysis of the data:

  1. Number of institutions which have been contacted (each institution is counted once, even if it has been contacted via several email addresses or through different channels, e.g. follow-up phone calls in addition to e-mail reminders; the number includes institutions which never received the e-mail invitation due to an invalid e-mail address)
  2. Number of institutions which have completed the questionnaire (almost) in full, i.e. institutions which have responded to at least 19 out of the 24 non-conditional questions of the questionnaire (or the equivalent number if some of the non-conditional questions were not included in a particular country).
  3. For the purpose of the calculation of the response rate, institutions which have started to fill in the questionnaire but dropped out after question A2 as they did not correspond to the survey's definition of heritage institutions, are counted as responses.
  4. The Brazilian contacts file contained many libraries that don't qualify as "heritage institutions" as it was impossible to filter them out based on the data available.

While most of the respondents filled in the online questionnaire, there is also a PDF version available for reference purposes:

Caveats and Limitations

[edit]

A document listing the caveats and limitations of the survey is in preparation. In the meanwhile, the results of the data consistency checks, the analysis of response rates per question and the analysis of the self-selection bias which have been carried out on the basis of some of the datasets, can be found here:

Re-Use / How to Cite

[edit]

We would love if the data and results of this project are reused, reanalysed and reinterpreted as much as possible. And of course, we would love to hear from you if you are actually using our data for your own research. And don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or comments: beat.estermann﹫bfh.ch

Below our suggestion how to cite the questionnaire and the datasets that are made available via this page:
