translation administrator rights request for Carriearchdale

Reason? I see zero content edits. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:19, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well I have done some translation and reviewing on meta as well as here. I am fluent in quite a few languages. I was hoping to contribute what I can here. What other things besides translation do you need here. I am willing to help.

{{#babel:en|fr-5|pt-5|ar-5|fa-5|kl-5|es-5|iu-3|ja-3|zh-1|de-1|id-1}} Thanks, Carriearchdale (talk) 16:44, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Only a few, non content edit here and user is indef blocked (per Community consensus) on enwiki --Steinsplitter (talk) 20:50, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - Wow, either you really do not need any help here, or the whole atomsphere is cliquish and unwelcome to newcomers here. Of course I am not a newcomer to wikipedia. You won't accept help if someone is blocked from editing on a different wiki? That sort of thinking s rather close-minded. Too bad because the project loses out overall. I registered at wikipedia in 2007 and since then have made over 20,000 edits at 90+ wikimedia projects. (only one of which was en.wp) [1] So I asked in my comments above what help you did need here, and all you can give are negative comments. This is very disappointing behaviour on your part. ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 23:52, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comments of Steinsplitter aside, you have no edits here and we no longer give out rights with zero history on this project anymore. If you do want to come back and translate, by all means please do so, but until then, we have no history here to work off of. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 04:30, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator rights request for Grind24

Hello! Steinsplitter ,Kevin Rutherford and everyone i miss. It's been a long time that I had made a request to become an administrator on this wiki, which has not been the case. I have read your previous advice and I would just like to add that now I'm ready to take care of administrative tasks here. Thanks

Sorry for the delay in all of this. While I see one thing where you have helped out, I am leery of supporting this at this time. At the same time, I know you really want to work out here and are determined to help out where possible, and I know that there isn't a backlog of work here, so I cannot fault you for the low amount of tags. Therefore, I am going to support your candidacy, and will let another editor decide how to vote here and close it. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 01:40, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And per this, I am going to rescind my support. The editor had their right for less than a day, and you asked to have their rights removed because they didn't get it, in your opinion. While I see that they might not have been perfect at first, someone shouldn't have their rights removed because they made one mistake within a day of getting a user right. We're all human, and I am concerned that you might remove someone's rights because they made a rookie mistake. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 01:50, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support - I see no problems with this user. --Ochilov (talk) 05:58, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
NoN Not now. Discussed this with other crat, lack of experience. Please keep up the good work though. --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:56, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Lack of experience? if you say it; Ktr101 I didn't necessarily ask to remove his right, only to keep a good work in translation and no for other reason, but good I understood. Thanks and Happy New Year --Grind24 (talk) 09:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you start a topic with a header that says, "Remove right", in the English language, it's pretty clear that you don't want the person to have the right. I don't see any other way that that could have been construed, as it's pretty blatant. Additionally, you then go on to request that it be removed, further backing up that header. I understand that it might be a translation issue and is something you might not realized, but in the English language, you essentially just asked to have his rights stripped from him. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 19:12, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, Grind24 is trusted and very important to WM Outreach user. If he request sysop right again, I will probably support him. --Ochilov (talk) 09:50, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator and Translation Administrator rights request for AlvaroMolina

Hello, I would like to know I can give the administrator permission in order to be able to help in any situation (either delete pages or blocks) when in the case, in addition, I would like also translation administrator permission to help in the mark pages for translation with pending changes. Administrator and Translation Administrator rights request for Joalpe

Comment: Hi all. I am hoping to contribute more with the general maintenance of this project, especially the fight against vandalism. I have been active in this project, especially with newsletter-related and translation-related activities. I am active in several Wikimedia projects, being a sysop on Wikiversity in Portuguese. Thank you. --Joalpe (talk) 22:53, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you say that you're a sysop on Wikiversity on Porgugese, but Special:CentralAuth/Joalpe says that the right is temporary, and you have only 429 edits there. Is that true? --Pine 17:52, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The more that I look at this, the more concerned I am. The admin right was assigned on 2017-07-07, and it looks like you have taken only two admin actions since then. Given the relatively low level of vandalism on this wiki, and the other factors I have described here, I am not persuaded that assigning you admin permissions here is wise. I can be persuaded otherwise, but at this time I am inclined to say that this request for permissions should be denied. --Pine 17:59, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Pine:. Hello. Thanks for paying attention to this request. My sole goal here is to contribute more to this project I enjoy contributing to. If the further contribution I hope to be able to provide is not needed then ok. Wikiversity in pt ia a very small Project; admin right is only granted temporarily. There are currently two active sysops. I am one of them, probably the most active user of the project right now, running a course and a research group. Anyway, I have just applied here because I like this project and I thought I could be helpful in routine maintenance. Thanks. --Joalpe (talk) 23:12, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Joalpe: Thanks for the background information, which does make me feel a little better about this request. I think that vandalism on the Outreach wiki is well controlled. In the past people were appointed as adminstrators here with relatively lax requirements, but I think that we can now be more selective. Currently, I prefer that people have at least a year of administrative experience on one or more other Wikimedia wikis, and at least 300 logged administrative actions, before we appoint them as administrators on Outreach. So my suggestion is that you gain more experience as an administrator on Wikiversity or other projects, and then re-apply here in about a year. Let me change the subject and say that I have fewer concerns about assigning the translation administrator permission to people who have a use for it and don't misuse it, so I do not object to you being given the translation administrator permission here, and if you use it in good faith and wisely then I will welcome and appreciate your work with it here. --Pine 20:16, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: as an active bureaucrat, would you please make a decision in this case? I am an admin but not a bureaucrat so I can't make a final decision here. Thank you, --Pine 22:11, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Joalpe, Pine: How does this sound? I can make you an admin for three months and if you don't use the tools, it can just expire with no problem. If the three months are up and you have actually put the admin tools to good use and want to continue, you can just post here again. Sound good? Koavf (talk) 00:02, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Koavf thanks for the suggestion, but at this time I'm uncomfortable with Joalpe being an administrator here. I have no objection to assigning him translation administrator permissions, and I would request that he return here in a year or whenever he meets these requirements. Note that because these requirements were approved after Joalpe made his request for permissions, I feel that it's questionable whether those requirements apply to him as a matter of policy, but in my personal opinion I think that Joalpe should only become an administrator here after he meets those requirements, and presently he is a long distance from meeting those requirements. Perhaps in a year he will meet them, and I would be happy to reconsider his request for Outreach admin permissions at that time. --Pine 00:09, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Pine: Your input is definitely appreciated but it doesn't really seem fair to hold him to a standard that was made after he requested the rights. I agree that vandalism concerns are pretty unfounded here but it's not impossible and if he has the tools for a little while and then they expire without him really doing anything, I don't see the harm in it. Outreach used to hand out advanced user rights willy-nilly and that was probably unnecessary but it didn't really cause any harm. I still think a temporary adminship is acceptable since the discussion to have more stringent requirements was concurrent with this request. Koavf (talk) 16:22, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf, Pine:: Let me just stress: I am ofc making this request in good faith, aiming at contributing to this project that I like. I am professionally a professor in a School of Social Communications, and with that I am especially keen in contributing to outreach (as you can see the last issue of the education newsletter has a piece I have authored). I have time to engage with maintenance of this project and am willing to do so. I am not a rookie on Wikimedia projects, though I do not meet the criteria were brought up and that as I understand what was saying do not apply. I do not see the request I am making --as you do not-- as any form of privilege, just the technical possibility of contributing to maintenance. If the help I am willing to provide in maintenance is not deemed necessary, I am fine with not being granted permissions I have applied for. Thanks! --Joalpe (talk) 16:12, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with Koavf that it would not be wrong to grant the permission temporarily and according to that to evaluate their use in the project for a possible future request, however if this request was approved, it could generate some future conflict where users who Do not meet these conditions request to be administrators arguing that this request was approved without following the rules mentioned at the beginning of the page. I think it would be acceptable to see the opinion of other bureaucrats like Steinsplitter or Phoebe who have not been involved to facilitate the resolution of this request. —Alvaro Molina ( - ) 16:39, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see no harm with granting sysop rights in this case because the new rules have entered into force after the request was made (ex post facto). The user seem trusted. --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:14, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Koavf I sense a 3:1 consensus in favor of granting admin permissions at this time, and I abide by consensus, so please proceed with granting both administrator and translation administrator permissions. Thanks AlvaroMolina and Steinsplitter for commenting so that we could get consensus. --Pine 21:40, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Pine: Thanks. Your points are well-taken and in the future, we'll have more stringent review of applicants for advanced rights. At the moment, I'll stick with my earlier proposal of three months. If you don't use the rights, User:Joalpe, they will just expire and you'll have to apply again like everyone else. If you're using them and there is no one calling for review of your actions, then they can be extended by just posting to my talk. Thanks all. Koavf (talk) 22:12, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hi all. Thank you for this vote of confidence :) Beyond routine maintenance activities, I am happy to engage with to-do admin work that might be needed if there is anything you believe I can be helpful right now. @Pine: I know you felt uncomfortable with the situation, and I am sorry about that :(. I hope I will just have the opportunity to help this project. --Joalpe (talk) 23:16, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator rights request for Joalpe

Hi all! I was granted temporarily the admin flag two months ago, and I am posting here my request to be granted permanently the admin status. As you can see, since I was granted the flag I have been active in routine maintenance and would like to keep active in this work. There is a minority of active admins on this project, and I do believe my work on routine maintenance is relevant and more importantly needed. Thank you, and thank you to all admins I see dedicating time and effort to improve this project, which is key to engage our communities and raise awareness on Wikimedia projects outside the movement. --Joalpe (talk) 15:58, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the ping, AlvaroMolina. I have looked through some of Joalpe's administrative actions and I found nothing that I think is problematic for a new admin. Going forward I request that if there is ambiguity about how a situation should be handled then he should have discussions with other administrators at the Village Pump, which is the same as I would ask of any other administrator on this site. I feel that I don't know him well enough to cast a support vote, but I will happily say I have no objection to his continuing as an administrator with no time limit. --Pine 22:33, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support I think he has demonstrated a commitment to maintenance on the project and has used the tools correctly during these months. For my part, I don't see problems in which the permission is extended. —Alvaro Molina ( - ) 00:21, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator rights request for Mohammed Galib Hasan

Hi all! Currently i am Working on Wikipedia Education Outreach Program thats why i have a regular visit in Outreach. Currently i am Translating some outreach page from English to Bangla. If you see that since last month i have done more than thousand edits in Outreach Check. I have more than 5000+ Global Edits. I think the manner and discipline for Outreach now quite familiar to me. So if you grant me as a Admin of Outreach it will be more effective and fluent to work.Hopefully i can make more Contribution in Outreach with the help of Community member. Thanks! Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 12:19, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mohammed Galib Hasan: I don't personally object to you having advanced user rights but as you can see above, you don't meet the requirements: you need 10,000 edits across wikis. Adminship and bureaucratship used to be handed out here with little discrimination and the community now feels that those rights should only be given more selectively. This isn't a criticism of your quality of edits. Note that I am !voting neutral to see if others are in favor of giving this to you, tho. It's still possible that the community will vote in favor. Koavf (talk) 20:06, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

translation administrator rights request for Jhalmuri

@Jhalmuri: Hi. You have 3 edits on this project, including the current request. You have a total of 48 edits on all projects and less than one year of experience. Are you sure this is the right time to request translation admin rights? Under what rationale? --Joalpe (talk) 01:19, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jhalmuri: Also, you have not identified which languages you know here or on Meta. Can you tell me more about why you want these rights? Koavf (talk) 01:41, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: I am currently translating tech newsletter and community survey wishlist from English to Bengali on meta.wikimedia.org. Jhalmuri (talk) 23:05, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jhalmuri: Bengali is a very valuable language to have translated material and translation admin rights have no official barrier. I'll grant this with a six-month expiration in case you don't really use it. After six months, it can be made permanent by messaging me. Koavf (talk) 23:21, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translation Administrator rights request for Jay Jay Marcus Keize13

Greetings!

I am a contributor from Jamaica. I always allow myself to translate pages from English to Patois, and other languages. I am currently working at the Pitcairn Wikipedia, where I am translating, reverting vandalism, and doing admin stuff...however, I am not an admin. I've contributed to the Icelandic Wikipedia, among others. I interested in improving Jamaican articles, and I look forward to making a good impact in Wikimedia Outreach. Nice meeting you all. -- Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 (talk)

I have to be honest that I'm a little hesitant at the indefinite block you have on en.wp. But when it comes to translating, I think what is most important is fluency in multiple languages. Koavf (talk) 07:07, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: even though I was blocked on en.wiki, it didn't change my editing style. It was a bad thing that I did, and I regret doing so. I plan to push it at the back of my head, and just help to grow the wikis. I am a native speaker of Jamaican Patois, and English. I have basic knowledge of Spanish, and I can contribute in Dutch. Even though I'm not fully able to speak Icelandic or Norfuk, contributing at the wikis have helped my vocabulary in the languages. I look forward to translating and maintaning the wiki! -- Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 (talk)
YesY Done for six months, just in case. Koavf (talk) 01:04, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! -- Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 (talk)

Koavf did you look https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Jay_Jay_Marcus_Keize13/Archive? Based on that, I would have opposed this request for permissions if I had seen it before you granted translation admin rights. I can't override your decision to grant the translation admin permission, but I request that you reconsider. If this user contributes productively to Outreach for a few years, and demonstrates strong skills in translation work for an extended period of time, then I would be willing to reconsider. --Pine 05:26, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pine: I did but 1.) what happens elsewhere does not necessarily influence what happens here, 2.) he hasn't caused any problems here, 3.) I explicitly asked him about it and he acknowledged that it was inappropriate, 4.) I made the permissions temporary, and 5.) it's just for translation admin which doesn't mean that he's in charge of ensuring that norms are followed here like a proper admin or bureaucrat but just for translating pages. Adding up all those, I think a trial run to see if 1.) he actually does anything useful with the advanced permissions or 2.) causes any real problems is a pretty safe approach. As always, I respect your perspective but Outreach has been fairly liberal with user rights, even if the community here decided to rein in admin and bureaucrat a couple of years ago. There should be a low barrier to translation and we should encourage multilingualism here. Koavf (talk) 06:34, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: I agree that Outreach has a low barrier for translation admin permissions. I am unaware of any recent cases of translation admins causing problems with their use of the translation admin permission. However, I think that this user's recent history on ENWP is concerning enough that I would be unlikely to grant them any special permissions until they have created an extensive record of good participation here. Unless I misunderstand how the translation process works here on Outreach, translation admin permissions aren't required to translate material that has been marked for translation by a translation admin. I would prefer that this user create a track record of productive translation on Outreach without the translation admin permission, before reconsidering them for that permission. If you choose to allow this user to continue to have the translation admin permission for the next six months, please ping me before re-granting this permission to this user so that I can review their work. I would not have granted this user the translation admin permission under the present circumstances, and I want to review this user's history before the permission is extended. I think that your intentions here are good, but I would prefer that you be more selective about who gets the translation admin permission. Thanks, --Pine 18:31, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator rights request for xaosflux

Hello, I'm a new P&E dashboard admin. Requesting admin access here for any useful maintenance I may come across. Running the checklist from above:

  • 60000+ global edits
  • 10+ year registered account
    • 0 active blocks globally
  • Current sysop on: enwiki, (also at metawiki)
Thank you for your consideration, Xaosflux (talk) 22:37, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've interacted with Xaosflux a few times for several years and even when we've been on opposite sides of a discussion, I've always known him to be a reliable and trustworthy editor. In principle, support but User:Xaosflux, can you tell me more about what you want to accomplish on this wiki in particular? Your editing history here is very liteweight. Koavf (talk) 23:13, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Koavf: really just technical maintenance as needed (such as cleaning up Special:LintErrors, mopping up obvious items in Category:Deleteme, fixing broken translation pages). I don't envision using block unless there were some blatantly obvious vandals. In working with the outreach dashboard group, there has been some initial discussion to move the integration away from the English Wikipedia (and here or metawiki are the obvious choices) for account generation - so I can expect some testing may be coming in that area. Additionally, I'm fairly experienced with edit filters, so may be able to make some improvements there as well. I understand if this is a "too soon" situation. Xaosflux (talk) 23:39, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, User:Xaosflux. I personally don't mind, as (again), I know and trust you. You've been on WMF projects for a long time and are an asset globally, so it's not a problem as far as I'm concerned. For some context, it used to be that advanced user rites were given out here like candy on Hallowe'en (even unsolicited!) and the community decided to impose some basic guidelines and best practices a few years ago. Asking the question is more-or-less perfunctory for me but others may be concerned or at least interested in what you have in mind. I think you're a totally trustworthy editor but as one of only three active bureaucrats here, it seems like a question the community should have answered. Thanks. Koavf (talk) 00:00, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • 10000+ global edits overall.
  • 3+ year registered account.
  • No Block at any wiki.

Why needed: As i mainly work with Education Projects like in newsletter,Bookshelf,Resources sometimes technical maintenance needed like cleaning up,fix the broken translation by others. So if i got this access it will help to do faster this works. Hopefully it will be considered positively. Mohammed Galib Hasan (talk) 15:35, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sounds good to me. Koavf (talk) 17:32, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose at this time but open to future reconsideration. Hello Mohammed Galib Hasan, you appear to be a good contributor with some very helpful language skills, but at this time you appear not to meet the requirement to already have administrator permissions on one other Wikimedia wiki, and the associated requirements for administrator activity on that wiki. I will gladly reconsider your request for administrator permissions on the Outreach wiki after you meet these requirements. In the meantime, I encourage you report any issues that need the attention of an Outreach administrator to a current administrator and/or at the Outreach Village Pump. Thank you, --Pine 03:51, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not done. Sysop access cannot be granted at this time because not all requirements are meet and there is no community consensus to overwrite those requirements. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:24, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translation admin rights request for DannyS712

I recently discovered this site and would like to help clean up pages for translation. I know how to use the tools and am familiar with the translate extension. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:03, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DannyS712, can you explain what you would like the translation admin permission to do that you can't do without that permission? Some examples would be useful. I'm not an expert in the translation tool but I know that translations can be done without being a translation admin. Thanks, ↠Pine () 07:24, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pine: its true, you don't need the rights to do the translations, but I want to clean up the source of the translations and then be able to remark the page for translation. Eg my edits to Case Studies education brochure won't take effect until the page is remarked by a translation admin. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 08:55, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, DannyS712. Taking into account your extensive permissions on other Wikimedia sites, I will  Support this request. ↠Pine () 20:30, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: can you take a look? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 06:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I mean as a bureaucrat - its been more than 3 days. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 17:12, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you mean pass this request? I'd prefer to let it run a little longer as there is not a strong consensus here. Koavf (talk) 18:46, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Its been another week... --DannyS712 (talk) 01:32, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
